Erasmus Students Civic Engagement ECEM project strives to design measures to increase students’ participation in civic engagement initiatives by building connections with Higher Education Institutions and Civil Society Organisations. Enriching Communities through Engaged Mobilities (ECEM) Supported by Erasmus+, ECEM seeks to enhance the civic engagement dimension of student mobility by fostering meaningful collaboration between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), students, and Civil Society Organisations. Its main objectives are to embed community interaction as a core element of international mobility, ensure the recognition of learning outcomes from civic initiatives, and strengthen cooperation frameworks that contribute to societal transformation and the promotion of shared European values. Service-Learning, a key approach promoted by ECEM, integrates community service into the academic curriculum, encouraging critical reflection, empathy, and a commitment to social responsibility. Unlike traditional volunteering, Service-Learning is directly linked to students’ coursework and learning objectives, making it both academically rigorous and socially impactful. It offers practical guidelines and five illustrative implementation models to support institutions in integrating Service-Learning into Erasmus+ mobility programmes, promoting recognition of learning outcomes, fostering collaboration with societal actors, and contributing to societal change and European values. The suggested models are intended as inspiration rather than strict instructions, allowing institutions to adapt practices to their unique contexts and the needs of local communities.
